You got a nice sports car, or a regular fast car that you drive on daily basis. You love it and you take a good care of it. Yet, you feel like you are missing something. You are missing the joy of pressing the gas pedal and feeling the strength of your 8 cylinder engine. You are missing that noisy awesome sound of the dual muffler with that diesel engine. Something you can use for moving your furniture from a place to another or tow a ca or even go mudding. Basically, some heavy duty stuff that require burning the gas and feeling the engine.
Yes I’m talking about owning a truck, a RAM! The truck that I’m going to talk about in this article was basically a piece of junk. It’s a 2011 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT with 4.7L 8 cylinder engine. The previous owner got in an accident and the truck was reported as a total loss. Not really if I look at it from my own perspective. The front end of it is completely gone. The bumper, the grill, the hood and both headlights. They all got smashed in the accident. There was a crack in the windshield too which I’m really not going to be bothered about. The inside of the truck was dirty. I can tell the owner wasn’t really appreciating his truck. The insurance company took the truck from the owners, paid them whatever the truck worth and then gave it to the Car Auction, Coparts. That’s where I got it from and that’s where my story starts. For this truck we got two main damage issues to take care of. The first main part is the body damage. It basically has these following nice and easy steps:
eBay, and amazon are one of my favorite destinations to get all what I need online. I purchased a new hood, new front bumper and a new grill to replace the damaged body parts. Second part, the mechanical damage Here comes the fun part where it’s time to get into the oil and the dirt. The truck had some of the front parts bent. The AC Condenser, the radiator and the radiator fan. These are the main parts that needed to be replaced so the truck gets back on the road. There was no damage with the engine except for the belt that needed to be replaced. The transmission was absolutely good too. Impressing isn’t it?
For this section I kept my shopping for the parts needed between Advance Auto Parts and Autozone. I purchased my AC condenser, my radiator, my radiator fan from both stores. I followed the process of going for the cheapest option between both stores. Now let’s say you couldn’t find the parts online or in the automotive stores, which I really doubt, or you prefer getting something cheaper. That I can listen to and I can say it’s fair enough. Junkyards are your best destination. You don’t see this advice very often but believe me. There is as much as hundreds and thousands of people who got sick of their vehicles and decided to junk them. They don’t realize how much is that valuable to us. What you gotta do is go around and take a look. You might find a grill, bumper or even pair of headlights that is worth $300 and they charge you $50 for it. Isn’t that a deal? What else you want? Something else I would like to mention is that the problem with the junkyards is, for the newer vehicle models there is a very limited availability in the yards or you will have to pay more money to get what you want. In this case, it will make more sense if you just go for something new. The main tip for this is, YOU GOTTA BE SMART. You have to know how to shop for parts and where to get them from. What is the best deal for you and whether you are saving money or not. Walk around, take your time and do your research, trust me you won’t regret it. Read also
